High resolution manometry in esophageal disorders

چکیده

Esophageal manometry is one of the main axes in diagnostic armamentarium that deals with esophageal motility disorders, next to endoscopic and radiological methods. Traditional, conventional manometry, has greatly been replaced by a modern technique, high resolution which enables not only better spatiotemporal signal compatibility, but also shortens time procedure extremely important for patients undergoing it. Two catheters are being used, solid state water perfused. Both record pressures within lumen both sphincters. Contemporary technology enabled incorporation impedance sensors into catheter. Impedance based on resistance changes liquid or food boluses. These help bolus transit evaluation, reducing need ionization procedures. Each examined (liquid solid) evaluated according Chicago classification criteria parameters these criteria. According third version Classification, functional disorders divided EGJ outflow obstruction major peristaltic minor disorders. Introduction this methodology, continuous update classification, timely diagnosis further treatment all more frequently diagnosed

Esophageal Disorders Not Yet Addressed by High-resolution Manometry

TO THE EDITOR: We greatly appreciate the insight provided by Wang et al 1 regarding their recent review of the esophageal disorders not assessed by the Chicago classification of motility disorders of the esophagus. This is an important issue as many people still fail to understand that the Chicago classification was designed to describe and categorize distal esophageal motor disorders focused o...

Clinical Application of Esophageal High-resolution Manometry in the Diagnosis of Esophageal Motility Disorders

Esophageal high-resolution manometry (HRM) is replacing conventional manometry in the clinical evaluation of patients with esophageal symptoms, especially dysphagia. The introduction of HRM gave rise to new objective metrics and recognizable patterns of esophageal motor function, requiring a new classification scheme: the Chicago classification. HRM measurements are more detailed and more easil...

How to Effectively Use High-Resolution Esophageal Manometry.

Esophageal manometry is the definitive test to evaluate esophageal motility and is indicated in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with nonobstructive dysphagia. Esophageal manometry is also indicated in the preoperative evaluation of patients obtaining a high-quality HRM study. Decisions toward or away from foregut surgery (Heller myotomy, Nissen fundoplication), which can be associated wit...

High-resolution Manometry: Esophageal Disorders Not Addressed by the "Chicago Classification"

The development of the high-resolution esophageal manometry (HRM) and the Chicago classification have improved the diagnosis and management of esophageal motility disorders. However, some conditions have yet to be addressed by this classification. This review describes findings in HRM which are not included in the current Chicago classification based on the experience in our center. This includ...

Clinical Applications of Esophageal Impedance Monitoring and High-Resolution Manometry

Esophageal impedance monitoring and high-resolution manometry (HRM) are useful tools in the diagnostic work-up of patients with upper gastrointestinal complaints. Impedance monitoring increases the diagnostic yield for gastroesophageal reflux disease in adults and children and has become the gold standard in the diagnostic work-up of reflux symptoms. Its role in the work-up for belching disorde...
